Online Sales Defy the Credit Crunch
Far from the gloomy sales figures on the High Street, online sales are flying high, according to recent business reports by the BBC.
That's the opinion of many people involved in e-commerce, Including Elaine Ferneley, Professor of Technological Innovation at the Salford Business School who said there were a number of reasons why online shopping was proving so popular.
"People are more conscious of what they're spending and, with sites like Kelkoo and Pricerunner, the web allows them to make useful cost comparisons when they're looking for a bargain," she said.
Lawrence Jones of UK web host UK Fast confirms this.
"I'd say we're in the middle of a boom," said Lawrence "And I'd say we've been in a boom for some time but because of the boom of the early years that went horribly wrong, people have been very nervous of saying that."
National Center for Family Literacy Partners with Anthology Authors
The authors of Secrets, Fact or Fiction? set out to promote recreational reading and literacy. To entice readers, the authors spiced up a collection of short stories then added an exciting incentive in the form of a reader contest. The book has met critical acclaim.
The National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) president and founder, Sharon Darling applauded the book, its mission and purpose. The editor of the thought provoking book, Diane J. Newton was prompted to action in 2004 by the National Endowments for the Arts “Reading at Risk” survey, which highlighted a marked drop in reading. More recently, another survey by the National Center for Educational Statistics stunned educators showing only thirty-one percent of college graduates can read a complex book and extrapolate from it. Five percent of our population cannot read a word of English. Newton says, “Authors and publishers must also respond to this crisis by creating better product, attracting children and adults into the world of books.”

"Flit's thin profile is a result of clever design that creates a surprisingly comfortable and generously proportioned chair," says Mike. "It offers the comfort and style of a fully-upholstered chair, with the functionality of a high-density stacker."
A knit mesh forms the back, which flexes to the body's contours and ensures that there is minimal contact with its tubular steel frame. "I selected careful geometry to produce this result," says Derek McLeod, Flit's designer. "The upholstered seat wraps a thin line over the frame, rolling down at the front to remove any leg pressure, and curving at the back for maximum comfort and support."

Industry analysts believe that contributing to the trend is the fact that many women are opting to maintain desirable hairstyles with at-home products, enabling them to save money by cutting back on salon visits.

For the six months ended April 24, 2009, Curlaway dollar sales were up 33% versus the prior six months.
