New Book Helps Children Cope with Trauma of Parent Confined to Bed Rest
For all those toddlers with mothers confined to bed for one reason or another, this charming book will soften the difficulty. Annette Rivlin-Gutman's message in Mommy Has to Stay in Bed is positive and uplifting, the rhythm lilting and soothing. Hearing the message through the voice of the child adds to the feeling that, bedridden or not, her mother is still positive, loving and devoted to her happiness.
Author Rivlin-Gutman's use of phrasing makes this little book especially appealing. We play cards, tell jokes, and watch a video or two. We draw pretty pictures of all the things we like to do is a reminder that, even when being confined to bed, a mother is still able to share joyful and loving moments with her child.
Irene Gennaro: 'Dream Catch' an Exhibition of 40 New Sculptures that Offer a Unique View of Gennaro's Iconic Imagery
In her exhibition of recent work at 55 Mercer Gallery, Irene Gennaro continues to honor the personal dream images that define her signature polychromed and carved wood sculptures. Forty new works offer a unique view of Gennaro's iconic imagery.
In Dream Catch, the artist revisits central themes of her oeuvre: transformed animals, signs, symbols, and anatomical references inhabit their own space, each suspended within an area of sky.
A surreal landscape provides the setting for, A Meeting, where animals that seem distant relatives of wolves have convened. In Persephone Revisited the artist reveals the mythological/spiritual thread that has been evident in the fabric of her work for years. In Nana, Gennaro captures the memory of a grandmother long passed. Sorella, engages a momento mori. The horrific events of 9/11 produced a nightmarish picture Gennaro lived with and later interpreted into a defining symbol.
Award-Winning Documentary Film 'Blues By The Beach' New 2-Disc DVD
Fate brought filmmakers together in Israel in April of 2003. After setting out to make a documentary film about a popular international blues bar by the beach in Tel Aviv called Mike's Place, the filmmakers' peaceful good time was abruptly interrupted when harsh reality struck the bar.
Blues By The Beach poster image
On April 30, 2003, two British Nationals executed a suicide bombing next door to the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv at Mike's Place, as an American producer and his crew were filming a cinema verite style documentary about the bar staff and their multiethnic patrons. The film crew was on the scene and captured the before, during and aftermath of the incident. This gripping true-life footage has since aired around the world.
The 2-disc set with 'EXTRAS' DVD (never-before-seen footage) is available online exclusively at CreateSpace.com and Amazon.com. 'Blues By The Beach' can be downloaded exclusively at iArtHouse and streamed via Vividas on-demand for private viewing. The film is also available for educational non-theatrical sales and screenings at libraries and schools.
The film's co-producer, Fran Strauss-Baxter, whose husband Jack Baxter was seriously injured in the attack: "When I saw my husband in the hospital, I knew that no matter what, the film must go on - just like Mike's Place," Strauss-Baxter says. "I know from firsthand experience that 'Blues' can change someone's perception of modern-day Israel. And I really believe anyone who wants peace in the Middle East should see this film and the 'EXTRAS' DVD."

Kentucky, Argonne Partner to help Build Domestic Battery Industry
The Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the University of Kentucky (UK) and University of Louisville (U of L) are partnering with Argonne National Laboratory to establish a national Battery Manufacturing R&D Center to help develop and deploy a domestic supply of advanced battery technologies for vehicle applications that will aid in securing U.S. energy independence, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help in strengthening the economy.
"Advanced batteries will play a significant role in the future energy and economic security of the United States," said Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear. "At this time, however, nearly all large-scale advanced battery production is in Asia, with the United States having only limited manufacturing capabilities. To address this situation, the United States must quickly develop improved advanced battery technologies and significantly ramp up domestic production capabilities in order to become the hands-down global leader of these technologies."
Senior Life Settlements Increasing Among Retirement Assets
Retirement planning and Social Security are in the headlines every day. Yet, few mature individuals are aware they might get useful retirement cash by selling unwanted life insurance policies. "Senior Life Settlements can help many people enjoy their over-60 years," said American Viatical President Morris Heins, who began his financial career in 1965.
Insureds age 65 and older own nearly a trillion dollars of life insurance, but only a tiny fraction of policies are being sold on the secondary market. When it comes to Senior Life Settlements, very few insureds are being instructed by their life insurance agent, financial planner, wealth advisor or CPA. What we're seeing is a failure of communication". American Viatical serves to educate the public about Senior Life Settlements, and its staff can speak with authority.

Mortgage MD Blog: 'New Types of Property Ownership Opening Up Vacation Market to Masses'
While the recent downturn in the real estate industry has slowed primary home sales, new types of property ownership have spurred growth in the vacation property market. Vacation properties that offer full ownership hotel-condo opportunities are finding buyers despite the softening housing market.
Ray Avanzino, a mortgage planner with MD Mortgage Direct, has seen a trend toward condo-hotel vacation properties, particularly among his baby boomer clients. "Many baby boomers are sitting on a lot of equity in their primary residences and that money isn't working as hard as it could for them. To invest in additional properties, many are looking at hotel-condo opportunities. My clients get a premium property that will earn them a return, they have world class management companies handling the rental while they're away, and they have a vacation spot that will allow them to get away from it all and spend time with family and friends. It's a win-win," said Ray.

The NAFB study measures this still-emerging consumer market segment at 26 percent of all U.S. households - and 69 million people. From a marketing standpoint, that dwarfs the roughly 2-million farmers and ranchers measured by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in today's U.S. producer marketplace.
