Canada Specified Persons List (SPL) Functionality Added to APIScontrol V 2.7
SecureTRANSIT, a Nova Scotia software development company, has added functionality to its APIScontrol product that will automate the scanning of Canada's new Specified Persons List (SPL). The SPL, comparable to the United States' Customs and Border Protection (CBP) No-Fly list, is intended to identify "high risk" individuals and prevent them from boarding aircraft.
Under the SPL program, the Canadian government will identify people who pose "an immediate threat to aviation security" and will work with airlines to stop those people from flying, said Transport Minister Jean Lapierre. "Names would be added to the list based on information supplied by CSIS and the RCMP. Data would also be shared with American and British security officials."

NewRiver, Inc. today announced updated statistics for the NewRiver Summary Prospectus Index sm which tracks all summary prospectus filings on the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) EDGAR database. American Funds is the newest and largest fund firm to be tracked on the index since they filed the EuroPacific Growth Fund standalone summary prospectus. In total, five fund companies have filed 20 standalone summary prospectuses. Twenty-eight fund companies including American Funds, Nuveen Funds and Van Kampen Funds have filed summary sections within 147 statutory prospectuses. NewRiver's index is rapidly gaining notoriety from mutual fund firms and intermediaries who will ultimately benefit from the summary prospectus rule through reduction in costs associated with traditional print delivery, as well as investors who are eager for simplified fund comparisons.

As the number of filings grows, many firms are reviewing the overall impact of the summary prospectus ruling. For example, when fully implemented the rule is expected to substantially increase the number of prospectus books. "Today the average book contains two prospectuses," said Len Driscoll, Chief Client Officer of NewRiver, Inc. "With more than 8,000 mutual funds and over 24,000 CUSIPS in existence, we see the number of books essentially doubling to a range of 16,000 to 18,000 as mutual fund firms utilize one book for retail and another for retirement and institutional share classes. In fact, the number will actually triple when you account for the statutory prospectus. This is a byproduct of the rule which strongly suggests that distributors will implement a "print-on-demand" model that ultimately will yield enormous cost savings."
Healthways Launches Petition Drive, Presents Silversneakers Research Findings at National Area Agencies on Aging Conference
Older adults who participate in the Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program are mentally and physically healthier than those who don’t participate, and the more they go to the gym, the lower their healthcare costs, according to findings presented at the National Area Agencies on Aging conference here this week.
Research conducted by the Institute for the Study of Aging found that healthcare costs of SilverSneakers members during the first year of program participation were on average $441 lower than for non-participants. Similar research conducted by a Healthways health plan customer found that members participating in the SilverSneakers program by going to the gym 200 or more times a year had lower healthcare costs and used 30 percent fewer healthcare services than those who did not.
Buddy Guy's Legends Staying in Current Location for Time Being: Famous Club to Reside in Current Building Indefinitely
Buddy Guy's Legends will be staying put at 754 S. Wabash Avenue in the South Loop neighborhood of Chicago for the time being. Mr. Guy announced in January of this year that the club's lease on the building owned by Columbia College would be up May 31st. Although that date has come and gone, Buddy Guy's Legends continues to operate in its current home and will continue to do so until doors are ready to open to the public in a new location.
Five-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Buddy Guy opened his world-famous club in June of 1989. Ten years later, in 1999, Columbia College acquired the building. It was agreed then that, some time in the future, Buddy Guy's Legends would relocate as Columbia College would eventually need the space for expansion. Columbia College has been very accommodating and has negotiated terms with Buddy Guy's Legends that will allow the club to remain open at 754 S. Wabash Avenue for the time being. Buddy Guy's Legends is looking forward to new location but no move will be taking place in the immediate future.
