Private Equity- and Venture Capital-backed Cos; Raise $950-M via IPOs in 2005
Private Equity and Venture Capital firms obtained exit routes for their investments in 42 Indian companies during 2005, according to data from Venture Intelligence India (http://www.ventureintelligence.in), a division of TSJ Media. These figures compared favorably with the 30 liquidity events (including six PE-backed IPOs) during the previous year.
Seventeen PE & VC-backed companies raised about $950 million via IPOs during 2005, the Venture Intelligence India study showed. “The highly successful IPOs of PE-backed companies like Suzlon Energy as well as Oracle’s buyout of I-Flex in 2005 proved that the Bharti-Warburg Pincus deal was not a one-off and solidified the India story among international PE investors,” said Arun Natarajan of Venture Intelligence India.

InsureMe, an online insurance lead generator, recently challenged its employees to take corporate philanthropy a step further. The company made volunteering a quarterly goal for its employees.
Employees were challenged to give at least eight hours of their time to charity over a three-month period. If over 75 percent did so, the company would then distribute profit sharing to its 70-person workforce.
When asked what inspired the altruistic goal, InsureMe's founder and CEO waxed philosophic:

The online survey also found that 33% of SMBs are concerned about the quality of calls when using VoIP services. 76% of respondents were open to testing out VoIP, as long as a service level guarantee was in place. The posters for the Haverhill Rocks downtown music festival feature Hannah playing a guitar. “We didn’t expect this sort of controversy when we chose Hannah Dustin as the icon for the music festival,” said Shaw Rosen, chair of Team Haverhill, the citizen’s group working with Mayor James Fiorentini and the City Council to help guide Haverhill’s renaissance.
