National Association of Loan Officers Meets With HUD To Advocate Licensing for Loan Officers
A delegation from the National Association of Responsible Loan Officers (NARLO), the trade association of mortgage loan originators, visited with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., to discuss loan officer issues on June 28. NARLO was represented by Ella Gurfinkel of Executive Financial Solutions Inc., Portland Ore.; Christopher Cruise, Baltimore, Md.; and Robert Skrob, NARLO executive director.
The highlight of the group’s trip to Washington was its meeting with Brian Montgomery, Federal Housing Administration commissioner and assistant secretary for housing at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This marks the first time that the USCC has held a "zero waste" event at its annual meeting. The goals of the "All Compostable" BBQ are to highlight the growing array of certified compostable foodservice items and the feasibility of incorporating source separated food scraps collection into hotel operations. The BBQ will be held on the evening of January 23rd and the food scraps and compostable items will be processed at the nearby Reedy Creek Energy Services composting facility. Efforts will be made to recycle all the non-compostable cans, bottles and jars, making this a true "zero waste" activity. The BBQ will be open to all attendees of the USCC Annual Conference.

Shingles sufferers, prepare to be disappointed. According to a recent Dutch study, neither standard treatment nor treatment including an epidural injection of steroids will do enough to stop the chronic pain of shingles.
The study gave one group of shingles patients standard oral therapy and gave the other group both standard oral treatment with one injection of steroids and one injection of a local anesthetic.
The first group reported no change in their pain, while reports of pain in the second group decreased for only about a month. The conclusion from the study was that the injections should only be used for patients with the most severe shingles pain that does not respond to standard treatment.
