Structured Bond Scandal Revelations Highlight Governance Flaws in Greek State Pension System
Life & Pensions, the international journal of insurance and pension fund risk management, has published an exclusive article on the recent Greek structured bond scandal. Based on exclusive interviews with supplementary pension fund TEAPOKA and others, the article details:
How TEAPOKA was first approached by Athens brokerage Acropolis in November 2006 and why TEAPOKA accepted the proposal to invest in a €280 million structured bond deal
How the prospect of sharing in €20 million risk-free profit persuaded the Greek government to issue the bond with the help of investment bank JPMorgan and hedge fund North Asset Management
How TEAPOKA believed that information provided by its local custodian, the Bank of Greece, represented a fair market price for the bond
How this steadfast belief ultimately forced the Greek government, JPMorgan and North Asset Management to compensate the pension funds in full for their investment
How the Bank of Greece was forced to change its client portfolio valuation policy in response to the scandal
Nicholas Dunbar, editor of Life & Pensions, comments: "The offices of TEAPOKA and the Greek ministry of economy and finance are only a mile or so apart in Athens, but as far as the gap in sophistication was concerned the distance could have been to Mars."

William Cook's Cholesterol Plunges on Tower Heart Technology Formula
After William Cook suffered two heart attacks and a triple heart by-pass operation he elected natural cholesterol reduction. Doctors monitored Cook's cholesterol and in 8 months it had dropped from 246 to 164 and his LDL cholesterol had dropped from 163 to 101, all on 2 jars of Tower Heart Technology per month, plus 2,000 mg. additional vitamin C as ascorbic acid.
All statins - natural or artificial - lower cholesterol by blocking the same essential enzyme. In 1985 Harwood, et. al., made the important discovery that ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is the human body's natural HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, without the liver-destroying potential. When vitamin C levels are low, the body compensates and manufactures more cholesterol; when vitamin levels are high, vitamin C inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, predictably lowering cholesterol.

Physicist Reveals in New Book Evidence of Life After Death He Experienced Himself and Some of the Best Evidence from the Literature
Author Jan Vandersande, Ph.D., is one of a growing number of scientists who has witnessed hard evidence of life after death. In his new book, Life after Death: Some of the Best Evidence, readers are taken into the fascinating world of séances and sittings where Vandersande, his wife, and close friends experienced other-worldly phenomena first-hand with genuine trance mediums and channelers.
"What happens after we die?" is a question that human beings have asked since time immemorial, and especially during the past two centuries, in-depth investigations have taken place throughout the world. For Jan Vandersande, interest in religion, philosophy, and questions about life and death began in his freshman year at Swarthmore; and even though he occasionally read a book on psychic phenomena, the time was not truly ripe for his paranormal education to begin. Continuing his formal education at Cornell University, he graduated with a master's degree in physics.
A New Way to Predict Outbreaks: Replikin Peptide Concentration in H5N1 Influenza Virus Genome as a Marker for Lethal Outbreaks
WHO and CDC have stated that the predictive accuracy of their annual formulations for human influenza vaccines is "suboptimal" - often correct less than 50% of the time, especially for seniors. Perhaps in part because we are not yet accurate in our predictions of upcoming influenza strains, approximately 36,000 people die each year of flu in the United States alone.

As in the case of hurricanes, early warning of the location and intensity of virus outbreaks would allow us more rapidly and effectively to defend ourselves with strain-specific vaccines. This is now possible.
