Where to Start With Retirement Savings
Most folks have some sort of tax-deferred, qualified, retirement account available. They go by many names -- 401(k), 403(b), 457, and deferred compensation. This kind of account is a good place to start when contributing retirement savings. For the purpose of clarity, when I refer to a 401(k) plan, I am referring to all of these kinds of plans. Understand, though, that this does not include traditional or Roth IRA accounts.
If your employer matches your contributions, you should definitely choose the 401(k) plan as the place to start with your contributions. For example, your employer may choose to match your contributions to the 401(k) at a rate of fifty cents per dollar for the first 6% that you contribute to the plan. What this means is that, if you make $50,000 per year and you contribute 6% ($3,000) to your 401(k) plan, after the employer match youll have a total of $4,500 contributed to your account by the end of the year. With the fifty cents per dollar match, youre making a 50% return on your money, even before you invest it in the market! An additional bonus is that the contributions you make are pre-tax, so theyre actually costing you less in the long run.

Hornsby Arts Council, Inc Launched - Major Works of Fine Art Preserved Comprising the 'Heritage Gift Collection'
The arts scene in Hornsby Shire is about to change radically with the formation of the Hornsby Arts Council Inc. The Hornsby Arts Council will accept a spectacular gift on behalf of the people of Hornsby Shire -- fine art works valued at nearly half a million dollars. The Hornsby Collection includes works by local professional artists such as Margaret Woodward, winner of the Wynne Prize whose works were recently honored by the Paramatta Council with a retrospective exhibition. Peter Laverty, another donor, is a prominent professional artist and a former Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The rest of the collection is made up of other highly respected artists including Rodney Millgate who founded the Hornsby Art Society in 1965. The Hornsby Arts Council will work in collaboration with Hornsby Shire Council, to manage Hornsbys cultural heritage on behalf of its citizens and allow people to experience the contributing artists legacy in a number of different ways. Works from the collection will be hung at temporary venues while the Hornsby Regional Arts and Education Centre is being developed. A general visits program, including open days, group visits, concerts and special events, will eventually allow thousands of people and school groups each year to experience Hornsbys culture through day visits.
